At the same time, Nordkapp joins the Urbanscale network, an international venture of thinkers and doers dealing with the emerging practice of design for networked cities and citizens. Our role in this network is to provide expertise on visual and interaction design for interfaces and services of all sizes. The Urbanscale network will launch officially in January 2011.

For us this collaboration is another landmark in the evolution of Nordkapp as a world-class design consultancy. The convergence of the Internet with physical objects and environments will present a profound evolution in the ways that we interact and connect with our surroundings, as individuals and as communities, and we are excited about the opportunity to take part in an international network dedicated to building the platforms, services and products involved.
As Mr Greenfield will be based in New York, this agreement will also give Nordkapp a new international reach. “Nordkapp wants to bring the care and craft the world associates with Finnish design to questions of digital interaction,” says Mr Greenfield. “It’s an ambition I share, support and would like to see realized.”
Nordkapp has been conducting research and development on topics in ubiquitous computing and urban screens for two years now, and we are excited to see the future unfold in front of our eyes. We intend to make all of our work on this area — whether successes or failures — public and available through Creative Commons licensing, so that everyone can benefit from our experience. Watch this space – now let’s get to work.
