Thanks for visiting our brand spanking new website. This is a work in progress, an experiment without a version number. Things will change and evolve over time once we figure out what we want to do with this thing. One thing’s for sure—calling this a beta would be just lazy. We don’t wanna be like that, do we? "
Weeknote 215-216
Daddy's back, things of national importance and getting shortlisted in IxD Awards.
Hoy, who’s-your-daddy is back. After having a second baby in the family, I’m back from some luxurious paternity leave time that Finland has to offer. Actually, I’ve been back for some time now, but getting back to grips with weeknotes is apparently a step harder now that one’s sleep time is drastically cut, again. Nevertheless, [...]
Weeknote 214
Another weeknote, still filling in for Teppo. This time more about reinvention, failing, student visits and public speaking.
We’ve been doing quite a lot of interesting bits and pieces. First, we did a bit of a facelift to our own work. A large web service, actually one of the largest in Finland in terms of content, launches soon after being hidden in corporate pipes for a while. There were some accessibility concerns we [...]
Weeknote 211
In this weeknote: sensors, mapping, tablets, a baby, aeroplanes, Las Vegas, and so forth.
Whew. What a few weeks. Last Monday, Teppo + Laura got their second baby — a beautiful girl — and everything’s been a bit crazy ever since. Warm heartfelt congrats from the whole office! The saddest bit of news from the past few weeks is definitely the death of Steve Jobs. It’s fair to say [...]
Weeknote 207 + 208
We launched Urbanflow Helsinki website, made it to Computer Arts magazine and met some elders.
Oopsie, two weeks passed since last weeknote, but such is life. Instead in the meantime there was a blog post about the newly opened Urbanflow Helsinki website. Urbanflow, as you might know, is a joint effort of Nordkapp and Urbanscale. Together we envision an operating system for cities. If you’ve somehow managed to miss this, [...]
Weeknote 206 — Hardware projects, Windows 8 Explorer
Autumn projects have more or less kicked into high gear and we're busy again + thoughts about utilizing user research data, the Microsoft way.
Autumn projects have more or less kicked into high gear and we’re busy again. And some discussion about research data, the Microsoft way.
Weeknote 204–205: We are back!
Hey ho! The summer is back and we're back in business. People came back from their holidays in waves during the last three weeks or so. And now we're back doing projects.
First two of these weeks it was just me & Kate cleaning the office — continuing a task that Matti had started in the beginning of the summer. Kate is mostly to thank for this effort though. She cleaned all the team rooms, kitchen, office supplies and whatnot. I was mostly a hard labor robot, [...]
Weeknote 196 + 197
Massive end-of-the-season weeknote, with so much success it's not funny. It's that time of the year again: projects come to an end, and summer holidays are almost here.
I’ll be signing off in the end of this week for the massive Finnish Mid Summer celebrations and blissful holidays (read: summer cottage with lots of friends and children around), and so will many of us. Rests of us will soon follow in the next few weeks. We’ll still have some people around for the [...]
Weeknote 194 + 195
Stories about great success and great failure, mobile apps and resources.
Windows Phone 7 We released our thoughts on Windows Phone 7 User Experience, and a Windows Phone 7 Cheat Sheet to help designers and developers get on board to designing WP7 applications faster. They received a really nice response, and were tweeted by the Windows Phone Design Team and Smashing Magazine, among other interesting entities. [...]

Future interfaces, touchscreens, a visitor and a victory.
Sauli and one of our new guys, Jukka, were working in full force on-site at a client’s place recently. Jukka got busy during his first work week as they spent a three-and-a-half-day sprint workshop designing future interfaces and visual communication guidelines for our client’s product portfolio. Client’s designers were involved in the workshopping, too. This will integrate deeply with people’s personal content both online and offline in the coming years and we hope to be a part of the future development of this.
New people: Please welcome Kate, Jukka and Akseli!
It must be the spring— Nordkapp is growing quite steadily these days. Here's a brief introduction to some of our newest designers;
First, from behalf of everyone at Nordkapp I’d like to welcome our newest addition Jukka Koops. As it seems to happen quite often nowadays, he’s switching industries back to design after a stint in marketing communications at Finnish advertising agency Kirnauskis 2.0. But there’s more than that— he’s a recording artist, has a history in [...]
