Thanks for visiting our brand spanking new website. This is a work in progress, an experiment without a version number. Things will change and evolve over time once we figure out what we want to do with this thing. One thing’s for sure—calling this a beta would be just lazy. We don’t wanna be like that, do we? "
Urbanflow Helsinki is an interactive informational service for urban screens and connected devices, designed and conceived in collaboration with Urbanscale LLC and Nordkapp.
As you may have noticed, we released the concept video of Urbanflow Helsinki in mid-July. The response has been great: over 10 000 views on Vimeo, mentions on Wired (by none the less than the legendary Bruce Sterling!), Archdaily, Digitalurban, the Architecture Report, JohnnyHolland.tv, and not to mention a plentitude of Twitter traffic and so [...]
Winter holidays, urban informatics, business design.
It’s Monday morning 8 am, and I’m all alone. Don’t worry, they will be here. It’s just that Monday mornings start slightly slower. Matti, Teppo and Ilkka will be having a well deserved holiday this week. Therefore, you have a new weeknote reporter this time. February was an astonishing month for Nordkapp. We were super [...]
Reflection on emergent themes at Cognitive Cities, and how the cracks and seams in between might actually be the thing to consider.
Cognitive Cities was great. I had great fun presenting my view on urban information design and also enjoyed a great deal following all the other speakers as well. As usually happens at these conferences,a large part of the meaningful interaction went on in between the sessions, over a beer and so forth. This was definitely [...]
Adam Greenfield joins Nordkapp.
We are excited to announce that author and ex-Nokia head of design direction Adam Greenfield joins us as an advisor on research and development for urban interfaces and services.
Quick weeknote about UX Marathon and design thinking for the Finnish public sector.
A new addition to our weeknotes is Tia, our recently hired new interaction designer. She’s been excited about upcoming new challenges, especially our own urban screens project which is again going full speed ahead with a possible joint venture. Some really cool stuff happening soon!
Last week we got a new MD, phone upgrades are on the way and fall brings interesting projects.
As noted in last week’s blog post “Nordkapp – The Next Level” Panu Korhonen has been nominated to the position of Managing Director at Nordkapp, along with other nominations too. Panu’s first tasks have been putting the management practices in place. He says they must be lean and agile in true Nordkapp spirit.
Weeknote about World Design Capital, Boingboing & patents, and some #uxlx too.
This Saturday we held a workshop as a part of the ideation for the forthcoming World Design Capital Helsinki 2012. The theme was “Touchscapes: Toward the next urban ecology” as coined by our friend Adam Greenfield. He also gave a talk about Taking Networks Seriously and Petri Kola from Aalto Medialab talked about open data in Finland, and also about “method Mastomäki” developed on using data for your own benefit.
We are proud to announce our participation in World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 Ideas Forum, under the theme Touchscapes; Toward the next urban ecology.
The theme of WDC Helsinki 2012 is Open City, and in similar vain the workshops on May 22nd are voluntary, free-for-all events. Their aim is to join the organizers to brainstorm, discuss and plan what the year 2012 as World Design Capital can mean and be for everybody.
